About Iain Brown

I’ve had a passion for painting since I was young, and began oil painting at 18. Born in Glasgow, Scotland, I later moved to Ayr, located on the west coast. Now 63, I’ve spent most of my life as a self-employed individual, with a few jobs along the way. In addition to painting, I’m a qualified Reflexologist and Podiatrist, and I’ve also written and acted in plays.

At one point, I ran a successful business called Best Foot Forward, but five years ago, I suffered a stroke that changed everything. The business had consumed nearly every aspect of my life for the past 40 years, leaving little room for painting. As a result, I had to let go of it all. However, I always knew that in the later years of my life, I would return to my true passion—painting.

Over the past four years, I’ve reconnected with my art, exhibiting in various venues throughout Ayrshire. I've expanded my skills, learning to work in watercolour, acrylic, and oil. While I was initially hesitant about acrylics, I’ve come to appreciate how quickly they dry and the incredible effects they can create. In fact, many of my acrylic paintings sell right off the easel, as they dry in about 20 minutes, compared to oil paintings that can take up to six months to fully cure. This makes acrylics particularly suitable for exhibitions where people can take their artwork home the same day.

Living in Ayrshire, I often receive commissions for vibrant Ayrshire sunsets and landscapes, as well as for the iconic Trump Turnberry Lighthouse and Golf Course in Maidens, Scotland. I also create animal portraits and custom commissions, which you can find more examples of on my commission page.

Although I haven’t yet found my niche, I’m excited by the journey and the new ideas I’m exploring, particularly with Scottish landscapes and sunsets. More recently, I’ve begun working on a series of large 5-foot spiritual paintings, which have been both challenging and deeply rewarding.

In addition to my painting, I host a Christian radio program on Ayr Hospital Radio, airing Sundays from 2-4 PM. It’s a privilege to share my thoughts and beliefs freely with listeners, and I’m deeply honored to be able to do so.

Thank you for taking the time to explore my site. If there’s any way I can assist you, whether through commissions or simply sharing my work, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
